It's been a year with ups and downs... but God has been good and has given us the opportunity of starting fresh another one. What will you do with the time He gives you this new year?
Every year hundreds of thousands of persons start the new year with the famous "New Year Resolutions". Gym memberships explode, fitness purchases sky rocket, diets are modified, and the christmas spirit reigns... and all for about...1 month. Come February, 99% of the people who committed to new resolutions forget about them or, worse, purposely stop trying to pursue them. The emotions of the new year almost always come at a high and once the routine kicks in, work, kids, school...etc., our bodies naturally lean back to what has been the norm in our lives. Did you had a resolution in mind?
Just as it happens with New Year resolutions, it can often happen in our spiritual journeys. We go to church and hear a great sermon, feel the voice of God talking to us, feel closer to Him... only to start the week and then experience a return to our "default" overwhelmed and stress modes. Well, what if this year we make it our target to connect with God and stay connected?
As christians and followers of Jesus, we recognize that being a Christian is a life-long journey, that being a Christian entails more than just calling ourselves one, and that being a Christian means deloping a strong and better relationship with God. Not our yearly, but our daily resolution should always be to start, finish, and live each day with Jesus in our hearts. Recognizing that any given day might just be our last, Jesus calls us to "pray without ceasing", to constantly watch and prepare. What am I saying...? Simple. There's no better resolution than to work to strengthen our spiritual health.
Whether you goal is to read more books, or lose weight, remember: "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Cor 10:31). Finally, let me finish like this:
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace."
Happy new year friend!
