Can you think of something to eat that is better than bread? There is just so many things that can be done with wheat and so many different types of breads that is hard to imagine living in a world without it. Am I right? Bread is awesome and, when properly cooked (not processed), it has the right flavors and right nutrients to sustain us. Still, the Bible mentions something better than bread that also has the ability to sustain us. Care to venture a guess?
"So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord." - Deuteronomy 8:3
I don't know about you but when I sit down to read the Bible or to work on this ministry and devote my time to God, the feeling, satisfaction and energy is just unbeatable. God fills the soul, heart and mind like no one or nothing else does in the world. When quality time with God is spent, everything else ceases to exist. For a time problems do not matter, tomorrow and the new affairs do not matter, what I am going to eat does not matter... all that matters is God and, more importantly, all that matters to God is you. He cares for everyone equally but He has the capacity of being with all of us simultaneously so you can be sure that when you call upon His name, you have His beautiful and undivided attention.
When thinking about the renewing power of spending time with God my mind always go to Jesus. Jesus fasted for 40 days... 40 days with nothing to eat, can you imagine that? Modern science tells us that the human body cannot go for more than 4 days without food and water, yet, Jesus went for 40. What gave Jesus the nourishment and energy to live that long without food? God. God did. Bread alone, food alone does not cut it. We shall live by the word of God.
Ahh! What a joy is to serve a God whose word is life and whose character is love? Next time you feel like you need deep fulfillment and satisfaction, come to God. He'll nourish you :)
Until next one,
